DETROIT -- Jordan Zimmermann is making $18 million this season, which is a lot to pay a player to watch a pennant race from the bullpen. The Detroit Tigers might not have a choice. After months of trying to get him healthy, the Tigers sent Zimmermann back to the mound in a crucial game Saturday night, only to see him get shelled. He allowed six runs, including three homers, and was pulled before getting an out in the second inning.I was terrible tonight, so this loss is on me, he said. I felt fine physically, but I couldnt locate any of my pitches. I was trying to hit the corner with my fastball, and Id miss five inches outside or five inches over the plate.Zimmermann, bothered by a neck injury, has been on the disabled list three times and was making his first big league start since Aug. 4 and his second since June 30. He gave up four hits -- including the three homers -- and two walks while getting three outs. He threw 42 pitches and faced 10 batters. Its pretty embarrassing to go out there and give up six innings in one-plus innings, he said. Ive pitched twice in two or three months, and had two short outings, so it has been really, really frustrating for me. Ive never dealt with this before.Between his stints on the disabled list, Zimmermann has an 8.84 ERA in eight starts since the beginning of June. With the Tigers deep in the race, it isnt clear what his immediate future holds. Were going to weigh a number of factors, Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said when asked if Zimmermann will remain in the rotation. We need to win games, and well decide how we think we can best do that. The Orioles would be happy to see Zimmermann shut down for the year.Thats a very, very good pitcher and we happened to catch him on an off night, Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. I certainly wouldnt want to be facing him in his next start.Adam Jones and Chris Davis homered in the first inning off Zimmermann (9-6), and Matt Wieters connected in the second and sixth innings. At this point in the season, with us in the race, every win is huge, Wieters said. Obviously, it feels good to hit two homers tonight, but only because they came in a win. If we had lost, it wouldnt have mattered.Baltimore is two games behind first-place Boston in the tightly bunched AL East and one game back of wild-card leader Toronto. The Orioles are one game ahead of the Tigers and New York Yankees for the second wild card.Ubaldo Jimenez (7-11) allowed two runs, four hits and three walks in seven innings. The guys gave me a great start, and I just wanted to get us deep into the game with that lead, he said. My sinker was really good tonight, and I was able to throw all the breaking pitches whenever I needed them. After an 11-minute rain delay at the start, Adam Jones hit Zimmermanns first pitch on a high arc into the Tigers bullpen in left. After Manny Machado drew a one-out walk, Chris Davis launched a 2-0 fastball deep into the Baltimore bullpen in center.J.D. Martinezs RBI single cut the gap to 3-1 in the bottom half, when Jimenez retired Justin Upton on a grounder to strand runners at the corners.Wieters hit a two-run homer in the second, when Blaine Hardy threw a run-scoring wild pitch. Wieters hit a three-run homer off Buck Farmer in the sixth.Ausmus responded by making eight lineup changes for the seventh, changing every position but catcher.TRAINERS ROOMOrioles: Davis said he plans to keep playing despite a sore left hand that has bothered him for most of the season. Orioles manager Buck Showalter has tried to rest his first baseman by taking him out of lopsided games, and replaced him with Drew Stubbs in the seventh on Saturday..LOOK OUTTigers third-base coach Dave Clark was uninjured after being hit on his rear by Erick Aybars hard one-hopper in the fourth inning. Clark, who stands closer to the plate than most third-base coaches, laughed off the incident. Clark took a glancing blow in the eighth inning from a Steven Moya grounder as he tried to pirouette out of the way.In all the years Ive been in this game, I have never seen a third-base coach get hit twice in the same night, Showalter said. Baseball will never cease to surprise you.UP NEXTTigers ace Justin Verlander (14-7, 3.28) faces Baltimores Chris Tillman (15-5, 3.76) in Sundays series finale. Tillman is coming off the disabled list, while Verlander is 6-1 with a 2.09 ERA in his last 11 games, posting a quality start each time. Weve asked Sky Sports Now guests Tony Cottee and Tony Gale to give their expert assessment of the weekends action and grade each team based solely on their latest performance. Premier League results Arsenal 4-0 Watford Aston Villa 0-4 Chelsea Bmouth 0-4 Man City Leicester 1-0 Soton Liverpool 1-1 Spurs Man Utd 1-0 Everton Norwich 3-2 Newcastle Stoke 2-2 Swansea Sunderland 0-0 West Brom West Ham 2-2 C Palace So how did your team fare as top-flight action returned after the international break? Did they get an A+ or an F, or somewhere in between? Read on to see how your team has been ranked... Leicester - AGale: People may have been expecting Leicester to win this game but they still had a job to do. Leicester did what they had to do and won the game on the back of discipline and good defending. If you want to win the Premier League you have to win games when youre not playing well. Leicester appear to have mastered that art.Norwich - A- Martin Olsson is congratulated after scoring Norwichs late winner Cottee: Norwich would have got an A if you didnt concede two goals - thats been their problem all season - but they deserve great credit for their display in a pressurised game. When Newcastle fought back to 2-2 Norwich could have easily taken the point, but to go on and win the game was fantastic.Arsenal - BCottee: An improved performance from Arsenal but its difficult to give them anything higher than a B because it was an uninspiring performance from Watford.Chelsea - B Ruben Loftus-Cheek opened the scoring in Chelseas victory at Villa Park Gale: Guus Hiddink gave a few youngsters an opportunity which was good to see. But, in fairness, this was a gimme for Chelsea and they took full advantage of a poor Villa side.Crystal Palace - BGale: Palace could have been more adventurous following West Hams red card. But Dwight Gayle did well to capitalise on a defensive error to earn a decent point for Alan Pardews side.Liverpool - B Philippe Coutinho starred as Liverpool and Spurs served up a classic at Anfield Cottee: This was a much-improved performance from Liverpool, theyve been inconsistent this season and, going into the game, we didnt know which team would turn up. But they really took the game to Spurs, Philippe Coutinho was fantastic. There is more to come from Liverpool, we probably wont see that until next season, though.Man City - BGale: Not quite an A for City but a decent performance nonetheless. I was impressed with the fact they were without Joe Hart, Vincent Kompany and Yaya Toure but managed to produce a better all-round team performance.Man Utd - B Anthony Martial netted Manchester Uniteds 1000th home Premier League goal in their 1-0 win over Everton. Cottee: United deserve a B simply because of the result. Theyre uninspiring, theyre not playing particularly well but they got the three points so its a fantastic result for them.Southampton - BGale: Ronald Koemans side had a lot of possession but couldnt get that all-important goal. A few decisions went against them and that just sums up Leicester at the moment, theyre getting the run of the ball. Graeme Souness and Peter Schmeichel analyse Danny Simpson blocking Sadio Manes goal-bound shot with his arm.dddddddddddd Sunderland - BCottee: Sunderland took the game to West Brom and created most of the chances. With better finishing they would have won the three points they so desperately need.Swansea - BGale: Swansea werent really in the game at Stoke but as soon as they got the first goal the equaliser was always going to come. They deserve a B simply for what was an unlikely turnaround.West Ham - B Cheikhou Kouyates controversial red card handed Palace the initiative at Upton Park Gale: Palace tried to stifle West Ham, they scored early but the Hammers fought back thanks to Dimitri Payets wonderful free-kick. At that stage West Ham were in control, but a bad decision to send off Cheikhou Kouyate allowed Palace to get back into the game. The game hinged on the big decision by Mark Clattenburg.Tottenham - B-Cottee: Although Spurs put in a decent performance at Anfield the most important thing was the result. Harry Kanes goal was brilliant but, without a doubt, this was two points dropped rather than a point gained.Everton - C Roberto Martinez ran out of ideas at Everton failed to find a way through at Old Trafford Cottee: I dont know where to start with my old club, they have been so average this season. Fantastic performances are followed by awful ones. They had a lot of possession yesterday but couldnt find a way through. You could argue they didnt deserve to win the game.Newcastle - CCottee: I cant give Newcastle any more than this. The effort is there, they scored two goals away from home, but they couldnt get anything to show for it. Until they actually start getting results theyll struggle to get anything better than a C.Stoke - C Gylfi Sigurdsson sparked the Swansea comeback at Stoke Gale: Stoke are a fantastic footballing side, theyve been one of my favourites to watch this season, but they tend to take their foot off the pedal when theyre playing the sides in and around them. This was the case on Saturday, with the Potters throwing away a two-goal lead.West Brom - CGale: Not a practically inspiring performance from West Brom but Tony Pulis set them up to get a point and they did. They are up to 40 points now and theyve done their job, they are in the Premier League next season.Bournemouth - D Kevin De Bruyne played a key role in Manchester Citys 4-0 win over Bournemouth Gale: I didnt foresee Bournemouth getting anything from this game if City turned up but Eddie Howes side could, and probably should, have made it more difficult. They tried to play City at their own game and that was where they came a cropper.Watford - ECottee: Quique Sanchez Flores side have got cup semi-final syndrome at the moment. Their minds are occupied on the FA Cup and quite rightly so, theyve done enough in the league and the cup is huge for them. Despite that, they were still poor at the Emirates. Alexis Sanchez was influential as Arsenal overcome a sorry Watford side Aston Villa - FGale: Villa are in a miserable run of form at the moment. They didnt really look like getting a result against a Chelsea side that had little to play for between now and the end of the season.
