He ran the ball six times for 47 yards and a touchdown. Smith also caught five passes for 113 yards, including an 81-yard catch-and-run for a touchdown. What will Smith bring to the Giants’ running back group? Let’s take a look as we continue profiling the 90 players the Giants will bring to training camp. The basicsHeight: 6-foot-3Weight: 235Age: 27Position: Running backExperience: 4How he got hereSmith began his career in 2015 as a fullback with the Seattle Seahawks. He played in only one game before being released and picked up by the Dallas Cowboys, where he was used as a regular running back. The Giants signed Smith as a free agent during the offseason.2019 outlook Smith will compete with Paul Perkins and Wayne Gallman for a backup role behind Saquon Barkley. He might be able to fill a short-yardage role, something the Giants might have hoped Jonathan Stewart could do a year ago. Some have theorized that Smith could also fill the role of fullback that Elijhaa Penny handled in 2018. That may be, but there were no noticeable signs during the spring that the Giants were thinking about that.
