The 33rd running of the Grade 1, $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup presented by Lanes End brings together a superbly talented field of nine 3-year-old fillies at Keeneland, all stakes winners and seven having won Grade 1 or 2 stakes in their careers. In terms of overall accomplishments, Catch a Glimpse gets first mention as she is eight for 10 in her career including a win in the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitational in July. Time and Motion turned the tables on Catch a Glimpse when winning the Grade 2 Lake Placid Stakes in August and the two are set to square off for the third time. Harmonize won the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks when last seen and is another with the credentials to succeed.Stays in Vegas was beaten a head in the Del Mar Oaks and can improve, as can fourth-place Oaks finisher Mokat, who previously won the Grade 2 San Clemente Stakes. Hawksmoor and On Leave are two fillies yet to run against the previously mentioned trio. Hawksmoor won the Group 2 German 2000 Guineas in June while On Leave won the Grade 2 Sands Point Stakes in her most recent race.Analysis and contenders: Let me start by saying there is no question that Catch a Glimpse, Harmonize, Time and Motion or Mokat can win as all four are graded stakes winners. Most of the four have faced each other multiple times and some have taken turns with each other. On any given day, any of these vastly talented fillies can win, and I will NOT be discounting their chances one bit. However, the new faces intrigue me a lot, and they are very likely to go to post at higher odds than the four previously mentioned fillies, so those are two horses I will be considering for win bets.Hawksmoor makes her North American debut, with a three-for-nine record in Europe. Three races back, in June, in a Group 2 (a very tough level) stakes in Germany, because of the addition of blinkers, she won in a field of 16. Hawksmoor then faced OLDER fillies and mares in the Group 2 Killboy Estate Stakes in Ireland, finishing third. She was not disgraced a bit when beaten a nose and a half-length for the win. In her most recent race, the Group 1 Matron Stakes in Ireland, Hawksmoor once again faced older opponents, finishing fifth of nine. For her U.S. debut, she adds Lasix and gets a local jockey in Corey Lanerie. If she is able to run back to either of her two efforts prior to the last one, she has every right to win this years Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Invitational. On Leave has slowly worked her way up the class ladder in her six starts to date. She won her first start this year, in June, and is unbeaten in three races since. Her last race was her best effort yet, as she won the Grade 2 Sands Point Stakes, at this nine furlong turf trip. Jose Ortiz is the only jockey to ride On Leave to date and knows exactly what to do in order to get her to win. The 110 Equibase Figure she earned winning the Sands Point stacks up just fine when compared to the 112 figure Catch a Glimpse earned winning the Belmont Oaks Invitational and the 111 Harmonize earned winning the Del Mar Oaks. Best of all, On Leave has demonstrated the fastest final quarter-mile time of any horse in this field, running 22.6 when winning in July and 22.5 when victorious in the Riskaverse Stakes in August. Catch a Glimpse may be tough to run down as usual, but On Leave has potential to do just that in this race. The rest of the field, with their best representative Equibase Speed Figures, is Catch a Glimpse (112), Harmonize (111), Stays in Vegas (111), Queen Caroline (101), Mokat (110), Time and Motion (112) and Try Your Luck (102).My top two contenders 1. On Leave 2. HawksmoorFor more stories like this check out Americas Best Racing. Marques Johnson Jersey . The son of 1982 world champion Keke Rosberg has won the pole position at the last three races on the Formula One calendar and is coming off a victory at the Monaco Grand Prix two weeks ago. But the quick and difficult Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve has become Hamiltons track, having won there three times in his career, including last year. "I enjoy this track and Im confident coming here," Rosberg said Thursday. "Qualifying will be exciting and important. "Maybe a little less important (than at Monaco) because you can overtake, and tire degradation is going to be an issue, so theres going to be a lot happening in the race. But, as at all tracks, its always a big challenge to try to be ahead of Lewis in qualifying because hes very quick." And he likes his chances to claim a fourth straight pole. "Our car has been the quickest in qualifying for quite some time now," he said. "We just have a very fast car. "Im confident Ill be quite far up the grid in qualifying here." Hamilton jumped from McLaren Mercedes to Mercedes AGM this year and has yet to win in six races this season, although he has been in the top-5 five times. Sebastian Vettel leads the drivers championship and is on course for a fourth straight F1 title, but the Red Bull cars have been less dominant this year against Kimi Raikkonens Lotus, Fernando Alonsos Ferrari and the Mercedes. And Vettel has yet to win the Canadian Grand Prix, although he was second to Jenson Button in 2011 and fourth in 2010 and 2012. The McLaren team has won the last three times. The 4.361-kilometre track is especially punishing on brakes with its long straightawayys leading to tight turns, including a hairpin.dddddddddddd It is also tough on tires, an issue that has Mercedes in the midst of controversy. The team has been called to a hearing with the international tribunal of FIA, the sports governing body, to answer questions about a possibly illegal tire test after the Spanish Grand Prix last month. If found in violation of rules barring unauthorized in-season testing the team could be fined or even banned from the constructors championship. The Red Bull and Ferrari teams complained that Mercedes gained an unfair advantage by running 1,000 kilometres over three days on a new, more durable tire that Pirelli will introduce this week. Teams were concerned with tires breaking down during races, so Pirelli came up with a stronger version. It will be available for use only during practice on Friday at the Canadian race but is expected to be in full use for the British Grand Prix on June 30. Rain is forecast for Friday, which would restrict use of the new tires, and for qualifying on Saturday. Skies are expected to clear up for the race on Sunday. Vettel blasted Mercedes in the German media this week, saying "every kilometre (of testing) is an advantage." Also at issue was that Mercedes used their 2013 car. Some tests by Ferrari in their 2011 car this year were allowed. And they used their F1 starters, rather than reserve driver Sam Bird. "That was what the team decided," said Rosberg. "I think also for Pirelli its better if were in the car because Sam doesnt drive much and for sure he wont be able to go on our pace and bring the Pirellis through the laps exactly as we would." The Mercedes team issued a statement this week saying it "welcomes the opportunity to explain the full facts" of the tests to the tribunal. ' ' '
