BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Just two days after losing star center Jack Eichel to a long-term injury, the Buffalo Sabres suffered another big loss Thursday night, when first-line winger Evander Kane crashed into the end boards.The play happened with 11.3 seconds to go in the second period of Buffalos season opener versus the Montreal Canadiens. Kane became tangled with Montreal defenseman Alexei Emelin but appeared to simply lose an edge on his skates as he flew violently into the boards.He rolled around in clear agony on the ice. Kane needed help to get to the dressing room.He did not return for the third period and was taken to the hospital for further evaluation and precautionary measures, the Sabres said.As for Eichel, Sabres general manager Tim Murray told reporters that the center could be out for as long as six to eight weeks, although the team has not put a firm timeline on a return.I guess some guys have come back after four or so, but we cant count on that and we cant sit here and wait for four weeks to come and think its all going to get better.
