PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks are doing their best to make it as difficult as possible for the Los Angeles Dodgers to get another NL West title.Mitch Haniger hit a three-run homer in a five-run sixth inning, and the Diamondbacks beat the division-leading Dodgers 7-3 Thursday night.Archie Bradley (7-9) struck out seven in six-plus innings and got plenty of run support as the Diamondbacks won their fourth straight and handed starter Rich Hill his first loss with the Dodgers. The Dodgers had their lead in the division cut to four games when second-place San Francisco beat St. Louis. Our guys were fired up, Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said. Its exciting. Its good baseball. Good crowd. People are yelling and screaming. Players are getting after it. Its just good to see in September. Were not in the hunt to win it. They are. Were going to do everything we can to beat them. The Diamondbacks scored five runs in the sixth off Hill (3-1) and reliever Louis Coleman. Run-scoring singles by Paul Goldschmidt and Brandon Drury preceded Hanigers second career home run.Hill, 9-3 with Oakland before being dealt to Los Angeles on Aug. 1, allowed a run for the first time as a Dodger when Kyle Jensen homered off the center-field batters eye in the second inning. That ended Hills streak of 20 consecutive scoreless innings with Los Angeles.Actually he threw the ball well, but we really couldnt get anything together, muster anything together (offensively), Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.In his last start, Hill had a perfect game for seven innings against Miami last Saturday before being lifted. His career best nine-game win streak ended.Drury set a Diamondbacks rookie record with an RBI in his seventh straight game.Arizona added to its lead with Chris Owings two-out single in the third to drive in Tuffy Gosewich.Bradley struck out the side in his first two innings and allowed three runs and nine hits. The Dodgers scored twice in the seventh to chase Bradley. A wild pitch allowed Joc Pederson to race home, and Chase Utley doubled in Andrew Toles.I just wanted to give us a chance to stay in it and the offense did their part, Bradley said. Even though were not a playoff team, were still playing the game hard and trying to win baseball games. Its fun to get fired up a little bit and get the competitive juices flowing.Patrick Corbin earned his first save by pitching three scoreless innings. The Diamondbacks four-game home winning streak is the longest since July 2014, also four games.BENCHES EMPTYBoth dugouts and bullpens emptied in the top of the fifth after Hill attempted to reach on a bunt attempt. Hill shouted at Bradley as he ran up the first-base line, then gestured at Bradley again after he was thrown out. Bradley shouted back at Hill, and players from both teams streamed onto the field.Bradleys pitch to Hill on the bunt was well inside and at Hills hands. Its just two guys playing the game hard. Nothing more than that, Bradley said. I was going in before he squared to bunt. Maybe the pitch was more in than it should have been, I dont know.It took only a few moments for order to be restored though both benches were warned by home plate umpire Ron Kulpa. The Dodgers proceeded to score their first run after Bradley walked Utley, then with two outs, Justin Turner doubled to the right field wall to drive in Utley.Hill faced Bradley the very next inning and struck him out looking. There was no ill will or anything like that. Just competitive and got excited, Hill said. The pitch was supposed to be inside, it just missed. Maybe being a pitcher I got a little too excited.TRAINERS ROOMDodgers: LHP Alex Wood, on the 60-day disabled list with an elbow injury, could soon be activated, but as a reliever. Wood went on the DL on May 31 and made 10 starts before that, going 1-4 with a 3.99 earned run average.Diamondbacks: Hale said pitcher Rubby De La Rosa, who exited Wednesdays start in the second inning, will be shut down from major-league games. Hale said De La Rosas health is fine though his elbow has bothered him. Braden Shipley will take De La Rosas rotation spot. I just want to feel 100 percent ready, De La Rosa said.UP NEXTDodgers: RHP Kenta Maeda (14-9) is already tied for second in wins in a season by a Los Angeles Dodgers rookie. So when reporters streamed into the clubhouse to get Doziers thoughts on joining Harmon Killebrew in the Twins record book for most consecutive games with a long ball and tying Alfonso Soriano for the most homers by a second baseman in American League history, Dozier was already long gone.He wasnt interested in talking about his accomplishments after a 10-3 loss dropped the Twins 29 games behind the Cleveland Indians in the AL Central. He didnt want indulge the thought that his homer spree is helping to ease the pain of a sixth straight season missing the postseason.Dozier has been one of the very few bright spots for a massively disappointing team that is steamrolling toward 100 losses. And the polite, Tupelo, Mississippi native has been using that aw-shucks drawl of his not to deliver some kind of false modesty about the roll hes on. It almost seems like he feels compelled to apologize for it.You do recognize the home runs and all that kind of stuff, its great for the game and the fans and all that stuff, Dozier said on Tuesday before the Twins gave up seven in the ninth to lose to the Royals. You never want to get too high or too low about it, especially at the end of the day when you look up and youre still 25 games out of first place.Thats the frustrating part. You want to enjoy the success, but it doesnt taste as good unless youre on the winning side of things. The Twins are a major league-worst 52-88 this season and have lost 17 of their last 20 games. There has not been a day this season where they have not been in last place in the division. Dozier was one of the reasons the teaam was buried from the beginning.dddddddddddd The former All-Star struggled mightily in the first two months of the season and was still hitting .202 with just five homers in the first week in June, with a pull-heavy approach at the plate making him easy for opposing pitchers to attack. After getting away and clearing his head during the All-Star break, Dozier has been a man on fire. He has 22 home runs in his last 37 games, two fewer than the entire Marlins team over that span. He trails Baltimores Mark Trumbo by two homers for most in the big leagues and only Atlantas Davey Johnson (42) in 1973, Rogers Hornsby (42) in 1922 and Cubs great Ryne Sandberg (40) in 1990 have hit more in a season as second basemen.Weve tried to figure out exactly how all this has taken place, Twins manager and Hall of Famer Paul Molitor said. I havent really witnessed as a player, a coach, a manager, a power surge to this level. Its just been such a regular occurrence. The binge has been so staggering that the teams beleaguered fans have tossed aside convention to honor him. When Dozier hit his third homer of the game on Monday against the Royals, fans stood and cheered and begged for a curtain call despite a six-run deficit.A bashful Dozier finally relented.I know as a Saints fan that weve had some rough, rough years. But when a Drew Brees throws for 400 yards, thats what you come to watch, he said. You have a lot of loyal fans that pay a lot of money. They want you to do a curtain call. And even though you feel awkward and you dont really know about doing it because were getting the crap beaten out of us, its pretty cool. With 22 games left, it seems like only a matter of time before Dozier climbs into history. Perhaps more importantly, he is providing a happy diversion during the long slog to the finish line.Im always right there at the top of the stairs, watching to see the ball fly off his bat, teammate Trevor Plouffe said. Its really cool. ' ' '
