LOS ANGELES -- Luis Perdomo gave the San Diego Padres another reason to be excited about just how far hes come. The 23-year-old Rule 5 acquisition looked like a very different pitcher Saturday than the one who gave up six runs in an inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers in his major league debut. It was my debut. I was nervous, said Perdomo (3-4), who gave up two earned runs in six innings in the Padres 4-3 loss to the Dodgers on Saturday. Now, Im a lot more relaxed. I just went out there and pitched, played baseball, and my sinker got a lot of ground balls today.Even though the game got away from the Padres on a contested play in the fifth inning, Wil Myers could see the difference.Ever since hes become a starter, hes been great, said Myers. Even right before that, he looked good. Hes becoming more confident. He can pitch, and we know he can compete at this level. It was 3-all in the fifth when Corey Seager scored from second base on a throwing error by shortstop Alexei Ramirez as he tried to complete a double play. With runners at first and second, Adrian Gonzalez hit a high bouncer to second baseman Ryan Schmipf, who threw to Ramirez for a forceout.Turner slid toward the outfield side of second base -- which he grabbed as he went by -- and Ramirez made a wide throw that glanced off the glove of first baseman Wil Myers. The Padres challenged the call, but replay upheld the original call that Turners slide was legal.Youre running along the grass and then the next that you know, youre six feet outside of the grass, so you clearly at some point in time changed his path, said Padres Manager Andy Green. Was it not close enough to call? I guess thats what they decided. No matter how the umpires ruled, Myers knew Seager should never have scored on the play.I just missed the ball. It was my fault, said Myers. It wasnt a bad throw. I just missed the ball, got too concerned with the runner, and just missed it. It was on me.Brandon McCarthy won his second straight start for the Dodgers after a 14-month recovery from Tommy John surgery.McCarthy (2-0) gave up three runs in five innings, including a first-inning, two-run homer by Yangervis Solarte. The right-hander retired 10 of the next 12 hitters, holding the Padres to a pair of walks. McCarthys win came six days after he threw five scoreless innings in his return from major surgery.Dodgers reliever Adam Liberatore got two outs for his club-record 24th consecutive scoreless appearance. He broke the mark of 23 set by John Candelaria in 1991.Kenley Jansen pitched a scoreless ninth for his 26th save.Solarte homered over the fence in right-center field to give the Padres a 2-0 lead in the first. Over his last 19 games, Solarte is hitting .380 (27 for 71) with seven doubles, four homers and 16 RBI.POMERANZ TO PETCOPadres starter Drew Pomeranz (8-7, 2.47) was picked on Saturday to the National Leagues All-Star team for the first time in his career.Hes earned everything hes gotten this year, Padres manager Andy Green said. Hes definitely rewarded the front office for the faith it had trading for him, and understanding the type of pitcher he could be, and is.MOST IN MAJORSTravis Jankowski easily stole second on the first pitch to Solarte in the first inning, his ninth theft in 16 games since June 21, the most in the majors during that stretch.TRAINERS ROOMPadres: C Derek Norris was back in the starting lineup after leaving Friday nights game with a right quad contusion suffered in a first-inning collision with Dodgers 2B Chase Utley. He regenerates quickly, Green said. He took a shot. Its a testament to how tough he is. We waited to post the starting lineup to see if he was capable of going.Dodgers: RHP Julio Urias will head to the minors to learn to pitch in relief, manager Dave Roberts said before the game. BALTIMORE -- Chris Davis is having such a phenomenal season, he can afford to joke about a slump hes been stuck in for more than a week. Hes not getting any sympathy from his teammates, either. Davis snapped an 0-for-17 skid with his major league-leading 34th homer, and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Texas Rangers 3-1 Thursday night to earn a split of the four-game series. Davis reached career highs in homers and RBIs (86) with a second-inning solo shot off Ross Wolf (1-2). His 34 home runs are the most in the majors before the All-Star break since 2001, when Barry Bonds had 39 and Luis Gonzalez hit 35. "I was just glad to get a hit," Davis said. "Got tired of striking out and grounding out and breaking bats. Kind of went on long enough." After the home run, he struck out twice and is now in a 2-for-27 funk. But does it really matter? "I talked about trying to be a little more patient, little bit more selective," he said. "And of course after I hit the home run I go back to swinging at everything. Some lessons are harder to learn than others." In spite of his recent dry spell, Davis is still batting .310 and ranks second behind Miguel Cabrera for the major league lead in RBIs. "Yeah, we all feel terrible for him. Hes got 34 and 86. Its been a rough go for him," joked teammate Brian Roberts, who also homered. "Nobody would have ever predicted that. We know hes talented, but to have 34 and 86 before the break is just crazy. And its been fun to watch." Miguel Gonzalez (7-3) allowed one run, four hits and two walks in 6 2-3 innings to improve to 5-0 at home this year. Baltimore has won each of the last 12 games hes started at Camden Yards. After Nate McLouth singled in a run for Baltimore in the eighth, Jim Johnson got three outs for his 31st save in 37 opportunities. Ian Kinsler homered and Mitch Moreland had three hits for the Rangers, who scored only one run in each of the final two games of the series. Adrian Beltre went 1 for 4 to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. Texas couldnt have asked for much more from Wolf, who got the start after Yu Darvish was placed on the 15-day disabled list with an upper back strain. Wolf gave up two runs and three hits in six innings. "Im very happy with him. He did what hiss job was today -- he kept us in the ballgame," manager Ron Washington said.dddddddddddd "Thats all you can ask from a guy thats sitting down there and gets a chance to pitch when you need him. We needed him today and he gave us what we needed out of him. We just didnt put enough runs on the board." Wolf hadnt allowed a homer all season until Davis and Roberts both went deep in a span four batters. Davis put the Orioles up 1-0 by driving a 2-1 pitch into the centre-field bleachers, and Roberts led off the third with his second homer of the year. "Davis, threw him a changeup. It was right down the middle," Wolf said. "Roberts was a little better pitch. It was fastball down and in, it was supposed to be away. I just missed the spot and its (in) his happy zone. Made a mistake and paid for it." Baltimores only other hit through the first five innings was a leadoff single by Matt Wieters in the fifth. He was promptly wiped out by a 6-4-3 double play in which shortstop Elvis Andrus went deep in the hole before flipping the ball to second from his glove. The Rangers had just one runner through the first four innings and managed only two hits through the fifth -- both of them singles by Moreland. Kinsler homered to lead off the sixth and Nelson Cruz singled with one out before Beltre hit into a double play. Texas got a runner on second with no outs in the eighth before Darren ODay quelled the threat.
