Less will be more under the structures currently being proposed for the future of international cricket, which would for the first time place limits on how many matches and series could be scheduled by any one nation.Speaking at the Cricket Australia AGM, which underlined the games financial reliance on bilateral tours, the chief executive James Sutherland outlined plans currently under discussion for league structures in ODIs and Twenty20 matches, plus a mooted conference format for Test matches. These structures, Sutherland said, would mean that the games financial powerhouses like Australia, India and England would play less international cricket than they presently do, while raising the volume of cricket played by other nations. This would be possible due to the increased context and meaning given to each match by league formats that gave players, fans, broadcasters and sponsors a clear idea why each match was being played. If you bring in some structure around international cricket and you create formats that are a league type arrangement you put limits around that, and any other cricket thats played outside of that is even more meaningless than other cricket that is played at the moment, Sutherland said. From that perspective it would put some really significant structure and limits around the amount of cricket thats played. With one day cricket and Twenty20 cricket we are contemplating a 13-team league where everyone plays each other, home and away over a three-match series over the course of a three-year period. That means you play six one day matches away, six at home every year. There doesnt seem any point playing any more than that because those are the matches that count.Similar structure for T20 cricket and I think thats something thatll be really beneficial for world cricket. Not just in terms of putting those limits in place, but also creating third party interest, making sure theres real relevance and context to every single match. The limited-overs league structures would mean each nation in the 13-team competition would play each other in one series, either home or away, over three years leading into each World Cup year, with the home team for that series then playing away in the next cycle to follow. Similarly, the conference structure for Tests would grow out of an ICC event-style draw, with seeded teams and others drawn to play them. A 12-team structure has the added bonus of bringing the likes of Ireland or Afghanistan into the fold.I think things need to change absolutely and we certainly believe that additional structure moving towards a Test Championship of one form or another, probably on some sort of a two-year cycle would be a real positive, Sutherland said. Were betwixt and between a little bit original suggestions about two divisions, then looking at perhaps a system where people play against each other and we used ranking points to decide who the champions are.But the one thats floating around at the moment is two conferences and perhaps matches being played inside of conferences with a little bit of cross-conference activity as well inside that two-year period and then having a champion team in each conference play off in a two-year cycle. I think theres some real merit in that, I dont think it significantly undermines some of the traditional series that are played and all in all very positive where every match would count, every series would count and I think itd be very keenly sought after, the right to play in that final. It also really exposes performances as well and the opportunity to bring a couple of countries into Test cricket would be a real positive as well.Sutherland admitted that in the current environment, it was impossible to apply equal priority to every international series, as shown by the recent tour of South Africa or the near convergence next year of the Test tour to India with the T20 home series against Sri Lanka. The IPL, of course, blocks out more than a month of the year for most nations. We make decisions from time to time in the best interests of a player, to make sure theyre available at the times that we see as the most important for them to be available, he said. Theres absolutely no doubt that at times we have to prioritise certain events, series, matches ahead of others.Certainly for the bowlers its just not possible for them to play all of the time. If you include IPL in there as well there are prioritisation discussions that need to be held all the time. they can be long-term planning discussions but they also need to be short-term planning according to how the player is dealing with injuries, niggles and also mental health. However Sutherland pushed the vital importance of making sure international cricket remained the top priority for the game ahead of domestic Twenty20, a point he has pressed home at successive ICC chief executives committee meetings in recent times. The example he can point to is the Big Bash League, devised to run alongside the international season and succeed without Australias best Test players.Im not sure my point of view is seen to be agreed to by everyone in international cricket, but our perspective here is that IPL is unique and then theres all the other domestic T20 competitions around the world. As far as Im concerned international cricket comes first, and is the absolute priority. Weve been true to that word in the way weve scheduled the BBL. People said the BBL couldnt be a success without Australian players playing in it.The facts of the matter are that its a great success, and its scheduled during the middle peak time of our Australian summer. International cricket needs to be the priority and you cannot schedule international cricket around domestic T20 competitions as far as Im concerned, and that will be one of the things we need to work through. Some countries may try to massage the program in such a way that they can do that, thats up to them. But first and foremost we need to be fully committed to international cricket for it to be sustainable. The proposed changes to the international game are due to be discussed in further detail at the next round of ICC meetings in February, and Sutherland said the hope was for a fully rejuvenated model to kick in beyond the 2019 World Cup in England.I would say certainly within five years, he said. Theres a little bit of a lead time because of preexisting contracts and things like that, but certainly the planning is very heavily focused on a line in the sand around the World Cup in 2019. We see that post-that theres an opportunity to roll into a new structure for the three formats. Replica Shoes Wholesale China . SEATTLE -- Dan Quinn took over as the Atlanta Falcons head coach in 2015 with the expectation that his respected defensive mind would overhaul one of the leagues most porous defenses. The former Seahawks defensive coordinator returns to Seattle on Sunday with a defense that hasnt made many noticeable strides over the past 19 months, but armed with a red-hot offense that ranks first in in the NFL in points (35.0), total yards (457.4) and passing yards (333.4) per game. The rushing attack? Thats the black sheep of the offensive family, ranking seventh at 124.0 yards per game.So the stage is set for Quinn to bring his NFC South-leading Falcons (4-1) to the Pacific Northwest for Sundays 4:25 p.m. ET tilt (FOX) against the Seahawks (3-1), who are coming off a much-needed bye week and looking to create some early breathing room in the NFC West.Their offense is just out of this world right now, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said of the Falcons. Their quarterback is on fire. Theyre doing a great job. I know Dan is fired up about it and were excited to see him play well, and itll feel like a championship matchup, just like we like. Atlanta quarterback Matt Ryan leads the NFL with 1,740 passing yards and 10.4 yards per completion while throwing 12 touchdowns against just two interceptions through five games. He has 26 completions of 20-plus yards and 10 of 40-plus, which both lead the NFL. And he certainly is not doing it alone, as Ryan is buffeted by a supporting cast that includes Julio Jones along with upgraded complementary wideouts and a two-headed backfield featuring Devonta Freeman and Tevin Coleman -- each a versatile threat who contributes to the passing game.Jones had a 300-yard game two weeks ago when the Carolina Panthers gambled on man coverage and got repeatedly burned. Most other opponents have dedicated an extra man to Jones, opening opportunities for Mohamed Sanu, among others, to do the bulk of the damage.Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman has shadowed the Jets Brandon Marshall, among others, in recent seasons, but there is no guarantee how the Seahawks will game-plan to face the Falcons.Im not their coach to decide that, Jones said when asked if he expects to be shadowed by Sherman. Its whatever they do. Im not calling anyone out or anything, nor am I going to shy away from competition. Im definitely going to compete every play, it doesnt matter whos guarding me.Ironically, it will be a unit whose foundation was built by Carroll and current Jaguars head coach Gus Bradley and then continued by Carroll and Quinn that will now be charged with showing the rest of the NFL that Ryan & Co. can be tamed.Seattle has led the league in scoring defense for four consecutive seasons -- including twice under Quinn -- and currently ranks third in scoring defense (13.5 points per game), first in yards allowed (264.0), second in passing yards allowed (183.8) and seventh in rushing yards allowed (80.2).However, the Seahawks havent faced anything this season the likes of the Falcons, with Seattles first four games coming against the fledgling offensive units of the Miami Dolphins (29th in total offense), Los Angeles Rams (32nd), San Francisco 49ers (31st) and New York Jets (17th).For much of Quinns tenure in Seattle, he oversaw a defense that was the identity of a hard-nosed team along with the Marshawn Lynch-led ground game. What he will contend with Sunday is an offense now well-equipped to engage in a shootout, especially if quarterback Russell Wilson is close to full health following a bye week to resst his right ankle and left knee sprains.dddddddddddd.Seattle doesnt use a traditional fullback anymore, with coordinator Darrell Bevell increasingly playing Wilson off the line of scrimmage and setting him up to spread the ball to a deep receiving corps, with the ground game now a complement off the passing attack.Quinn came to Atlanta as a noted defensive mind, but he returns to Seattle with a unit that is ranked 27th in points allowed (28.0 per game), 26th in yards allowed (388.8) and 26th in passing yard allowed (290.2). The pass rush, so critical to a scheme that doesnt feature heavy blitzing, has produced just 10 sacks through five games despite consistently facing offenses in must-pass situations. Pass rusher Vic Beasley, a 2015 first-round draft pick, has 4.5 of the teams sacks.Pretty similar, a lot of things, Carroll said of the scheme Quinn brought to Atlanta. Theyve got their own coaches that coach things differently and stuff like that. Theres a lot of basics too that are similar. The Seahawks scored a total of 15 points while squeaking past Miami in Week 1 before a 9-3 loss in Los Angeles in Week 2. But as has been customary under offensive line coach Tom Cable, the front five has steadily improved and Bevell has made adjustments while Wilson battled through limited mobility that all but eliminated the rollouts and read-options that were so critical to the offenses success the past three seasons. Wilson is getting the ball out quickly, and the return of tight end Jimmy Graham has added yet another weapon to a quietly deep arsenal. For all of Atlantas offensive prowess, the defense remains vulnerable. The pass rush has struggled to generate consistent pressure, and the secondary comes under constant attack everyone other than Pro Bowl cornerback Desmond Trufant -- a former star at the University of Washington who grew up in Tacoma, Wash., and is the younger brother of former Seahawks star Marcus Trufant.Trufant is intimately familiar with Husky Stadium, where the Falcons have been practicing this week after Quinn opted to have the team travel to the Pacific Northwest following a Sunday win at Denver rather than travel home and back. Quinn saw it as an opportunity to engage in some team-building, which sounds Carroll-esque.We thought it would be a unique time for our team to have that week together, and as well as the players not to battle back and forth through some time zones and some long flights, said Quinn, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It just so happened this is how the schedule worked out. Were fortunate we have an opportunity to practice out here. There is a lot on the line Sunday, perhaps as much as home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs. But there are also a lot of respected ties between the two teams, including Quinn bringing his upstart Falcons to Seattle to battle his former mentor for an early pecking order in the conference.I dont know about pride, but its exciting to see (Quinn), Carroll said. Hes having fun. Hes working hard. He has a team with an attitude and a personality. They had a great start last year, and they battled back and finished well at the end and theyre off flying again. They seem to be really be utilizing their talent well and the people they picked up. Theyre doing a lot of really good things. Its really exciting to see, but Im not going to get to caught up in the pride thing right now. We need to go play them. ' ' '
