CHICAGO -- Jose Abreu and the Chicago White Sox didnt need to play long ball to blast the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday night. Abreu had three singles and three RBIs to increase his major league-leading total to 89, and the White Sox had 17 hits in an 11-5 victory. Adam Dunn, who also had three hits, and Dayan Viciedo each drove in two runs. Seven White Sox starters had at least two hits and only one, Tyler Flowers, went hitless as Chicago had 14 singles and three doubles. Abreu is in a three-way tie for the major league lead in homers with 31, but hasnt slugged one since July 29. White Sox manager Robin Ventura is still impressed with his rookie first baseman. "I think youre looking at the professional side of his hitting," Ventura said. "I think everybody goes through a stretch where you dont quite have that feeling to hit homers. "Dont try to do too much. Dont be the hero," he added. "Not trying to hit it over the fence. Just put it in play and good things will happen." Melky Cabrera hit a two-run homer for the Blue Jays, who have lost four straight and 10 of 13 to drop four games behind Seattle in the AL wild-card race. Hector Noesi (7-8) settled down after allowing four runs in the first two innings and pitched five-plus innings for his fourth win in five decisions. Javy Guerra, Maikel Cleto and Daniel Webb allowed one hit over the final four. Ventura said he pulled Noesi because he had been hit in the thigh by a batted ball and the area was tightening. But Noesi, who won with his mother watching in the stands, had ample offensive support. "It was good because my location was a little off today." Noesi said. "I was trying to fight a little bit." Marcus Stroman (7-4) gave up five runs, five hits and hit a batter while getting only two outs in his shortest outing since joining the Blue Jays rotation on May 31. "Its disappointing because we scored four runs in the first two innings and I couldnt help my team keep in position to get a win," Stroman said. Blue Jays slugger Edwin Encarnacion was hitless as the DH after being activated from the 15-day disabled list before the game. Ten of the first 15 White Sox hitters reached base as Chicago scored five runs in the first inning and added one in the second. Viciedo singled twice in the span and drove in two runs. The Blue Jays scored a run in the first and three in the second against Noesi, including Cabreras two-run shot, to make it 6-4. The White Sox added five runs in the fifth to put it away. They opened the inning with six straight singles -- a season high for consecutive hits -- a walk and wild pitch against Todd Redmond, Torontos second reliever. TRAINERS ROOM Blue Jays Encarnacion, a two-time All-Star, missed more than a month because of a strained right quadriceps muscle. He has played 70 of 91 games this season at first base, but manager John Gibbons plans to ease Encarnacion back onto the field. "Hell have to play first base, but he was running guarded a little bit," Gibbons said. "If we dont have to, well let him DH the first few games anyway." The Blue Jays sent outfielder Anthony Gose to the Triple-A Buffalo to make roster room for Encarnacion. They also optioned RHP Chad Jenkins to Buffalo after the game. White Sox Outfielder Avisail Garcia, out since April 9 (torn labrum in left shoulder) has progressed in a rehab stint at Triple-A Charlotte and could be back as early as this weekend, according to Ventura. Garcia has 17 hits in 50 at-bats (.340), the number of plate appearances Ventura said Garcia needed to reach. UP NEXT Toronto LHP Mark Buehrle (11-8, 3.31) will face Chicago LHP John Danks (9-8, 4.96) on Saturday. Buehrle will take the mound at U.S. Cellular Field for the first time since leaving the White Sox three years ago. Buehrle has made two starts in Toronto (1-1) against Chicago, where he pitched for the first 12 years of his career. ACT YOUR AGE How has Buehrle, the former White Sox ace whos now 35, changed since leaving Chicago following the 2011 season? "Ten pounds heavier, throw slower," he said. "Im not as agile on the mound as I used to be. My body hurts." POWERING UP Adam Lind rejoined the Blue Jays from the DL on Tuesday in Seattle at was at first base on Friday. Lind has just four homers and 27 RBIs in 63 games with a .319 average, but last year hit 23 homers with 67 RBIs. The Blue Jays are counting on him and Encarnacion for an offensive boost down the stretch. "Early in the season when we were winning a lot of games, a lot of it was we were scoring a lot of runs," Gibbons said. "These guys are a big part of our team." Devin Lucien turned a short pass into a 40-yard TD with 9:57 to play, and the Bruins (8-2, 5-2 Pac-12) got creative to hold off a lively challenge from the Huskies (6-4, 3-4), who lost starting quarterback Keith Price to a shoulder injury right before halftime. Jack followed up his 120-yard debut at running back last week by becoming the 13th player in UCLA history to score four touchdowns. Cyler Miles passed for 149 yards after replacing Price, but the Huskies have lost nine of their last 12 Pac-12 road games. Damoreea Stringfellow, Jaydon Mickens and Austin Seferian-Jenkins caught TD passes for Washington, which hasnt beaten UCLA at the Rose Bowl since 1995. For the second straight week, Bruins offensive co-ordinator Noel Mazzone dipped into the defences roster to win an exhilarating meeting of two bowl-bound teams with prolific offences. Jack, the Bruins remarkable freshman from a Seattle suburb, finished with the most rushing TDs since Maurice Jones-Drew set the school record with five scores in 2004. Jack and the hulking Marsh scored the Bruins first five touchdowns as UCLA stayed right behind division leader Arizona State, which visits Pasadena next weekend. UCLA coach Jim Mora had been coy about whether Jack would even play offence again, but the freshman jumped in during the Bruins opening series, rushing for an 8-yard score on his first carry. Used mostly as a short-yardage back, he added two more scores in the first half and finished with 60 yards on 12 carries. Oh, and he also made five tackles. Brett Hundley passed for 159 yards for the Bruins, who led 27-7 early in the second quarter and were up 34-24 heading to the fourth. The Huskies kept it close despite losing their starting quarterback on a hit late in the second quarter. Miles, a redshirt freshman, had played only sparingly this season behind Price, a three-year starter who holds Washingtons career record for touchdown passes. Miles went 15 for 22, but threw two interceeptions on consecutive throws in the final minutes.dddddddddddd Stringfellow, a freshman with three catches all year, had eight receptions for 147 yards and a score with 8:01 to play. He also had a long TD catch wiped out in the first half by one of Washingtons 11 penalties for 113 yards. Bishop Sankey rushed for 91 yards and a score for the Huskies, who dropped to 7-20 on the road during coach Steve Sarkisians five seasons. The Bruins wore their black "L.A. Midnight" uniforms on a rare Friday night game at the Rose Bowl, but the stadium was roughly half-full at kickoff while fans struggled through Los Angeles usual Friday traffic. UCLA still led 14-0 less than six minutes in on two short scoring drives set up by Huskies turnovers. Jordan Zumwalt forced Seferian-Jenkins fumble on Washingtons opening series, and Jack rumbled for UCLAs first score just 2:38 in. Marsh then caught his 2-yard play-action TD pass on a short drive set up by Sankeys fumble near midfield. After the Huskies made a 95-yard scoring drive capped by Sankeys TD run, Washington could have recovered a fumble by Jack after a 25-yard run -- but Shaq Thompson failed to fall on the ball. Two plays later, Jack scored from 1 yard out. Jacks third TD surge put the Bruins up by 20 points, but the Huskies finally answered with Mickens short TD catch 6:11 before halftime set up by Malcolm Jones fumble. Price left the field grimacing after his final snap of the first half, and he returned to the sideline in the third quarter in a warmup suit and cap. Miles showed no nerves while leading the Huskies on a 26-yard scoring drive after UCLA fumbled the second-half kickoff, hitting Seferian-Jenkins for a score. But UCLA answered with Jacks fourth TD run, this time from 2 yards out. UCLAs defence had much more success against Miles, repeatedly stopping the Huskies on third downs. Washington successfully faked a punt and had a field goal attempt blocked later in the third quarter, but couldnt move consistently. After UCLA stopped the Huskies on fourth down with about 10 minutes left, Lucien turned a short reception into a 40-yard score with a sprint through the secondary, putting the Bruins back up by 17.
