Early in the third quarter of the Calgary Stampeders Week 3 win over the Montreal Alouettes, first-year receiver Brad Sinopoli beat veteran defensive back Byron Parker down the sideline and hauled in a wobbly Kevin Glenn throw with one hand for a 42 yard gain; perhaps the catch of the week. Sinopoli finished the game with five catches, a team-high 81 receiving yards, and post-game Twitter praise from the veteran DB he bested on his highlight reel catch. It was the first start of Sinopolis three-year career after the 25-year-old spent his first two years holding a clipboard as Calgarys third-string quarterback. The University of Ottawa product was an anomaly when he was drafted in the fourth round in 2011, not because he was a Canadian quarterback, but because he was a quarterback who happened to be Canadian. Two years later and things didnt pan out, but that doesnt mean Sinopoli is giving up. The athletic Peterborough, Ontario native is now trying his luck as a receiver. Will the position switch prove successful? His debut was impressive and will likely earn him at least another game or two in the starting lineup. Its yet to be seen if he can develop into a consistent starter, or if hes closer to an injury-replacement player. Sinopoli has been practicing as a full-time receiver only since training camp and hes competing for a non-import receiver spot (teams typically carry 3-4 on their active roster) against guys who have been studying the craft a lot longer. There are plenty of Canadian-born pass catchers with four years CIS experience at the position, and some who have cut their teeth in the NCAA, who bounce around the league from practice roster to practice roster. But a player with Sinopolis athleticism and QBs knowledge of the game, and one seemingly steadfast on carving out a career in football - no matter where he lines up - has at least a fighters chance to grow into a regular contributor in the CFL. The Rouge asks: Can Brad Sinopoli develop into a consistent and successful wide receiver in the CFL? Youve heard what weve had to say; now its your turn. As always, its Your! LOUIS -- St.INDIANAPOLIS -- Defensive lineman Arthur Jones season -- and potentially his time with the Colts -- came to an end when he was placed on injured reserve Monday.Jones had played in eight straight games this season before being sidelined last week with a groin injury and then missing Sundays game against the Vikings. There were a lot of high hopes for Jones when the Colts signed him to a five-year, $33 million contract in the spring of 2014. Jones, a run stopper, had ties with Colts coach Chuck Pagano from their time together with the Baltimore Ravens.Instead, Jones has played a total of 17 regular-season games because of constant injury problems, including missing all of the 20155 season with an ankle injury.ddddddddddddJones took a pay cut last spring and then ended up getting a four-game suspension during the offseason for using performance-enhancing drugs. The Colts will have a decision to make about Jones future because he still has two years remaining on his contract. Jones has a base salary of $6.25 million in 2017. Thats a hefty salary to pay a player who has contributed only 55 tackles and 1.5 sacks in three seasons. The Colts will save about $5.1 million against the salary cap if they release Jones in the offseason. ' ' '
