Britains most decorated track athlete Mo Farah presented triathlete Alex Yee with SportsAids prestigious One-to-Watch Award on Thursday and then announced plans to invest £50,000 in the next generation of British distance runners. The gift from the Mo Farah Foundation will be allocated to talented youngsters by SportsAid, the charity that provides financial support to potential Olympians and Paralympians at the start of their careers.Celebrating its 40th year, SportsAids track record is unrivalled, with its alumni winning 150 medals in Rio this summer, almost three quarters of the total won by British athletes.Farah is one of those former recipients of SportsAid funding and he was joined by more than 30 others at the charitys ball in London where the high point of the evening was Yees prize. The 18-year-old from London narrowly beat skeleton bobs Ashleigh Pittaway, 16, and swimmer Tom Derbyshire, 18, to the award and can now be added to an impressive list of winners that includes diving superstar Tom Daley, Olympic skeleton champion Hollie Arnold and Morgan Lake, a 19-year-old tipped as the next Jessica Ennis-Hill.Altogether, there were six former winners of the prize on GB duty in Rio.Yees victory was based on his triumph at the World Duathlon Junior Championships and a triathlon bronze at the European Juniors. It was especially fitting that Yee received his award from Farah as he is currently quicker over 5,000m than the four-time Olympic champion was at the same age.I have benefited an awful lot from the support of SportsAid - having them behind me is invaluable, said Yee, who will now get an extra £1,250 to go towards his training costs.Four years is a long time (but) I would definitely like to aim for (the Tokyo Olympics) and try to perform to the best of my ability.Farah said: It was great being able to present the One-to-Watch Award to Alex. He clearly has a lot of potential both as a triathlete and particularly as a runner.Ashleigh and Tom have also had impressive years and did incredibly well to make the top three.Derbyshire claimed gold in the 1,500m freestyle at the European Junior Championships, while Pittaway won gold at the Winter Youth Olympic Games and is now performing strongly in the seniors.Nike Vapormax Wholesale .
