In a series of tweets on Friday, former multiple-time world champion Garry Kasparov expressed support for some players scepticism about participating in the Womens World Chess Championship in Tehran next year and urged them to protest against FIDEs decision. The primary misgiving among players has been about having to conform to the Islamic dress code and wear a hijab (headscarf).I fully support US chess champ Nazi Paikidze in her protest against FIDE hosting a womens event in Iran, Kasparov tweeted. In another tweet, he said: I hope the worlds chess players, women and men, find the courage to protest FIDEs decision. Womens rights are human rights.Last month, the FIDE Congress in Baku chose Iran as the host country for the 2017 Womens World Chess Championship. It said no other country had bid to stage the event.Paikidze has said she will neither wear the hijab nor participate in the tournament unless conditions are normal. Her online signature campaign against the FIDE decision has received more than 8,500 supporters so far. Saying that FIDEs current stance is in contravention of its own handbooks clause F.01 (1) (2) -- which states that the body rejects discriminatory treatment for national, political, racial, social or religious reasons or on account of sex -- the petition demands a change of venue or the postponement of the competition till another country agrees to host it or that wearing the hijab be made optional for players.Kasparovs relationship with FIDE, the world chess body, has been tumultuous. Two years ago he ran for FIDE presidents job but lost to incumbent Kirsan Ilyumzhinov. In October 2015 the Ethics Commission of the body held him guilty of breaching the FIDE Code of Ethics over his conduct during the presidential elections. It then banned him from holding any official FIDE position or attending its meetings for two years.Dismissing the allegations against him, Kasparov had said that being accused of corruption by Ilyumzhinov is like being accused of foreign aggression by [Russian president Vladimir] Putin.Jerry West Jersey .
